"The purpose of the Cincinnati Area Puppetry
Guild
shall be to promote the art of puppetry through the exchange
of ideas, programs, and workshops locally, nationally, and internationally."
A BRIEF HISTORY
In 1937, the newly formed Puppeteers of
America held
the very first National Puppetry Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio.
This event came about after a National Puppetry Conference in
Detroit where Paul McPharlin suggested the formation of a
national organization for puppeteers. The support was overwhelming
and the PofA was formed. According to the record books, CAPG
was officially chartered in 1973-74. However, there has always
been a puppetry presence here in the Queen City, from as early
as 1937 when Martin and Olga Stevens hosted the first festival.
